AJAX Driven Ecommerce
“Definitely worth mentioning is the execution of the e-commerce componenet that does it’s job simply and efficiently and looks good while it’s doing it. AJAX was used extensively to provide a better buying experience. All interactivity for the buying process occurs dynamically, with no reloads.” - Communication Arts
The Challenge
Oolong Tees wanted their Web site to be attractive, easy to use and as unique as the shirts they sell. Since their target audience is comprised of young men and women ages 20-35, the interactive experience needed to be fresh, cool, engaging and speak to those interested in art and fashion. Namely, it had to appeal to the young, urban-oriented and fashion conscious, as well as art supporters inside and outside urban markets.

The Solution
Because visual elements are so important to the success of the Web site, Imulus designed eye-catching and user-friendly navigation to encourage visitors to click and explore. Images of art were strategically placed to entice users who are primarily interested in the shirts to learn more about the artists who created them. Links between the shirts and artists sections work to connect themes and drive traffic.
Flash and AJAX technology provides a smooth, interactive Web site flow and experience. With AJAX, when a user views a particular shirt the interactive buying process occurs on one screen—with no reloading. In addition, when switching from men's to women's shirts—and vice versa— the price and color options are updated without reloading. When a user adds a shirt to their cart, a "Quick View" cart fades-in showing the added item, while providing options to continue shopping or check out. If the user does nothing, the cart fades away after a few seconds. These ecommerce enhancements make for a smooth and efficient buying experience.
The Result
The response to Oolong Web site has been nothing short of remarkable. The artists love the site and it has received rave reviews for its design and the ecommerce experience. In the two months after the site launch, Oolong Tees received orders from New Zealand, Germany and the U.K with customers ordering an average of three or more shirts per order. The site has been featured on CommArts.com as the Site of the Week and also received a WebAward for Consumer Goods Web sites.
